What is Embossing?
Embossing is a technique that raises a three-dimensional image on paper. The technique used by Nicci involves a handmade stencil and a stylus (embossing tool). This is known as ‘dry embossing’, and is always the method Nicci uses in her artwork.
Firstly, Nicci designs and carefully cuts a stencil into card for the lettering. The stencil is then positioned on top of watercolour paper and then placed face down onto a lightbox. Using a stylus, pressure is applied around the interior edges of the stencil, until all edges have been traced and the desired level of embossing has been achieved.
What goes into making each piece so special
Firstly, a stencil for the main wording is created by hand. Once the stencil is completed, it is positioned on top of premium watercolour paper, then placed face down onto a light box where each letter is meticulously hand embossed with a stylus.
Next, the entire page layout for the pen artwork is set out. High quality pigment fine liner pens are used, which are UV stable & will not fade over time. The pen design is completed by hand with the utmost precision onto the watercolour paper.
Once the pen artwork is finished, each unique piece of work is signed by Nicci, before being carefully packaged in fully bio-degradable and compostable clear sleeves and fully recyclable board envelopes and posted to you.
